Devraj Sanyal has been named Chairman and CEO of Universal Music India & South Asia, while also stepping into the role of SVP of Strategy for AMEA—covering Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa. His appointment marks a significant shift in how the global music industry approaches emerging markets, especially India.
Since joining Universal in 2011, Sanyal has been instrumental in building one of the most relevant and influential music companies in the region. Beyond overseeing the careers of artists like Badshah, DIVINE, and Anuv Jain, he is also behind the Indiea Records, an initiative focused on elevating local voices to global platforms.
His strategy has been clear: develop authentic South Asian talent, invest in culturally rooted music, and scale it internationally. From early-stage artists like HanumanKind to household names, Sanyal is redefining what it means to build music careers from India to the world.
